Testimonies

There are many testimonies and stories of former child soldiers worldwide. Their stories are painful but must be told, both for the child to speak his and her pain and for the world to know and respond.

Akelo's Story

Akelo is a teenage mother caring for her two year old daughter and infant son in Pader Town Council IDP camp, Northern Uganda. When Akelo was 12, she was abducted by Lord’s Resistance Army rebels from her village in Pader. For the next four years, she served as a child soldier and sex slave. Traumatized and depressed by her experiences, Akelo is now receiving services from Christian Counseling Fellowship (CCF) in Pader Town Council IDP camp. Akelo is one of many stories which need to be told so that the world listens, and acts.

Please read Akelo’s story, which also discusses the role of Africa University’s Institute of Peace, Leadership and Governance internship program and United Movement to End Child Soldiering working together in Northern Uganda.

As our website evolves, we will endeavor to provide ongoing testimonies and recorded stories of former child soldiers.
