Description: Raymond Lubangakene in village Description: UMECS students Raymond Labangakene, Okello Mark and Rachel Scovia with AED
War-affected youth like Raymond Lubangakene, pictured here in 2007 right after Primary 7 in his parent's house in Unyama IDP camp, are among the many youth in Uganda who bounce back and prosper through education and mentorship. Highly vulnerable, Raymond rose to the rank of Number 1 at St. Joseph's Layibi College in Gulu where we sponsored him for his O-level education.
Four Years Later: Here is Raymond in February 2011, left, together with fellow UMECS sponsored students Okello Mark and Rachel Abalo Scovia at UMECS Secretariat. All three, severely war-affected, are now enrolled in top-notch Kampala A-level schools and will enroll in university in 2013. Raymond plans to enter medical school and become a surgeon. UMECS Associate Executive Director Charles Onencan is advising them about the school culture at their new schools.

See more about this program, below and on our homepage.
